Regular Board Meeting Highlights - November 6, 2018

November 6, 2018 - The Board of Trustees is pleased to share with all education stakeholders the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting.

  • The Board welcomed a delegation from Stony Plain Central School who have been working with Ever Active Schools promoting Active School Travel. Student leadership groups have taken the lead on identifying safety concerns and coming up with solutions to traffic and safety issues that will ultimately create safer environments for students to safely walk or ride their bikes to school. Their efforts involve encouraging students to walk and wheel to and from school creating less vehicle traffic in the school area. The campaign also encourages parents to drop off their students further away (arena parking lot, north of outdoor pool) so that students can walk to school safely without adding to the traffic in the school area. Ever Active Schools is currently leading Active School Travel programming with École Broxton Park School, Stony Plain Central School and Tomahawk School. Check out Broxton Park's video from last spring.

  • The Board received as information the 2017-2017 Provincial Achievement Tests and Diploma Exams Report.  Highlights from the report include continued improvement for Parkland School Division students meeting the province's Acceptable Standard in 11 out of 12 Diploma Examinations (up from 9 last year).

  • A construction update is a standing item in the Superintendent's Report. Superintendent Boyce shared that construction has already begun on Copperhaven School's playground with a completion date set for around the Fall Break. Meanwhile, progress has been made on finishing the gymnasium space in the school. Barring any major delays, that could be ready when students return from their Christmas Break.

Next Regular Board Meeting will be held on November 27, 2018 at the Centre for Education at 6pm.
