Builder Chosen for New PSD School
Parkland School Division is excited to announce they are one step closer to the first of two new schools opening in the near future. Planning has continued to forge ahead since the Government of Alberta's October 8, 2014 announcement of a 3-phase consolidated advancement of educational capital projects.
That includes the previously announced K-9 school slated for Spruce Grove's new Prescott subdivision. The construction contract for that school has been awarded by government to Clark Builders with construction work slated to begin in the spring of 2015.
"It is great news for families that Spruce Grove is now one step closer to another new school," said Alberta's Minister of Infrastructure Manmeet Bhullar. "Building schools is one of our highest priorities which is why we are undertaking the largest school capital build in Canadian history with 230 projects across the province creating over 78,000 new student spaces."
"This is very exciting news for Parkland School Division and the City of Spruce Grove," explained Board Chair Eric Cameron. "We have a lot in common with Clark Builders who have been a mainstay in the local community since 1974. Their company's foundation that is built on a commitment to consistency, entrepreneurial spirit and quality align nicely with the principles of Inspiring Education as we strive to develop engaged thinkers who are ethical citizens with an entrepreneurial spirit."
"Clark Builders is proud to build another school in Spruce Grove," said Clark Builders President and CEO Paul Verhesen. "We recognize the significant impact this building will have on the community and know that the City, the School Board, and the Alberta government will be great teammates as we work together on this project."
Over the course of the last five years, Clark Builders has built over 20 schools in the province including St. Peter the Apostle Catholic High School in Spruce Grove.
"We look forward to working with government and Clark Builders to produce a much needed venue to carry out all the great work being done by our teachers and students," stated Parkland School Division Superintendent Tim Monds. "It may seem like this project is far off to some but we can assure you that a lot of work is being done behind the scenes. It’s only a matter of weeks before shovels are in the ground which adds a new level of excitement and anticipation for all our students, parents and staff alike."
Details on the second new school slated for the west end of Spruce Grove will be shared when they become available.
Educating over 10,400 students and serving over 73,000 residents in an area of over 3,995 square kilometers, Parkland School Division operates 22 schools in addition to a number of alternate outreach sites located in the communities of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Parkland County.
