PSD Congratulates 2015 Edwin Parr Nominees

Parkland School Division’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Mr. Justin Anderson has been selected as the Division’s nominee to the Alberta School Boards Association’s Zone 2/3 Edwin Parr Selection Committee. Mr. Anderson teaches Grade One at École Broxton Park School in Spruce Grove.

PSD schools were invited to submit a comprehensive nomination package identifying an outstanding first year teacher to serve as Parkland’s nomination to the ASBA’s Zone 2/3. Two nominations for the Edwin Parr Award were received:

  • Mr. Justin Anderson – École Broxton Park School
  • Mr. Chris Smith – Tomahawk School

“In PSD, we’re incredibly fortunate to have exemplary first-year teachers like Mr. Anderson and Mr. Smith working with our students on a daily basis,” said PSD Superintendent Tim Monds. Monds adds, “We talk about the importance of an Excellent Start to Learning as one of our goals stated in our 3-Year Education Plan.  That may be intended primarily for students but that can easily be applied to our incoming teachers as well.  The future looks bright for PSD when you gage the passion and commitment level that teachers like Mr. Anderson and Mr. Smith exhibit.”

In support of his nomination, Mr. Anderson is described as a teacher who invests the extra preparation to provide engaging lessons that stimulate student engagement by providing opportunities to engage in the activity with their preferred learning style while experimenting with other styles in a collaborative environment. Justin has made significant contributions to the school athletic program as an assistant coach in volleyball, as a volunteer teacher leader providing support to Divisional committees looking at innovative teaching and as a support teacher leader in the school-based assessment of learners using the classroom profile tool.

In 1964, the Alberta School Boards’ Association established the Edwin Parr Teacher Award to remember the long and meritorious service of past President Edwin Parr.
