Strong Families Series: Grief & Loss

April 20, 2017 - Parkland School Division is proud to partner with the Starfish Family Resources Society to present another FREE information session for caregivers. Our May session will help parents understand what their children and teens experience during times of grief and loss, in order to help them stay resilient during and after emotionally traumatic life events.

Strong Families Series: Grief & Loss - Supporting Our Children

Date: Tuesday, May 16, 2017
Time: 6-7:30pm
Location: Parkland School Division Centre For Education - Board Room (4603 48th Street, Stony Plain)

Loss is an unfortunate but inevitable part of life. In this session, the Starfish Family Resources Society will offer advice and support for parents and their children of all ages who must weather an emotional storm, so that they can heal from their hurt and move forward.

In this presentation we will discuss:

  • The grief and loss process and how it affects children and adolescents
  • Strategies to help both parents and children endure times of loss, including death, separation and divorce
  • Strategies to rebuild your child's confidence and self-esteem, improve communication and academic performance, and prevent destructive behaviour following a traumatic event

Join us for an in-depth discussion of these topics and more.

A light supper will be provided. Limited childcare is available. Please register early to reserve your spot.
