April 22, 2024 - It is a topic around most family dinner tables, in schools and everywhere else these days. Should kids be on cell phones at school?

With cellphone use among students increasing, the Alberta Government is taking a closer look at the topic and have put together a survey to find out what the public at large thinks.

The province said there are pros and cons to cell phones in schools as they can be a powerful teaching aid or can be a complete distraction.

There are also concerns about student safety through bullying and harassment.

Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides said he hopes to hear from teachers, parents and other staff about cellphone usage in schools and will use the information gathered to help inform any potential next steps.

You can fill out the survey, which takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete, online until May 3, 2024.
